People with cochlear implants, and the family and friends who support them, are relatively small in number in British Columbia. We formed the BC Cochlear Implant Support Group to provide support to this community because living with hearing loss and a cochlear implant is a very specific experience that not many people share.
The group provides information, from what to expect during surgery and recovery to the experience of activation and rehabilitation. We offer information about audiologists, accessories, smartphones, manufacturers, and more.
We provide support and coping strategies. We remind each other that we are not on this journey alone. We offer a safe space to gather, both online and in person, and share the experience of hearing loss and the benefits and challenges that a cochlear implant offers. We learn together, socialize together, support one another, and have fun together.
